Football finance expert's Leeds United verdict to make Manchester United and Arsenal envious

There have been enough failed American investors into Premier League clubs down the years to ensure their arrival is met with an element of caution as well as optimism.

Just look down the M62 at Manchester United with the Glazer family for evidence of that.

And yet at Leeds United, the investment and growing influence of the San Francisco 49ers and Paraag Marathe's place on the Leeds board feels different.

As shareholders rather than sole owners it is of course different, but this US money looks well intentioned and comes from a sound and proven business model.

There are no protests from fans at the increased US presence, with fans trusting Andrea Radrizzani and welcoming the type of capitol that can help the Whites resestablish themselves as a big player at the top table in the Premier League.

One man who knows all about finances in football is expert Kieran Maguire. The Price of Football man is best placed to make a verdict on such matters and the good news for Leeds fans is he's impressed with what he has seen by the recent changes announced at Elland Road, which include three new directors with Marathe as vice president alongside Andrea Radrizzani.

"He [Marathe] is very self-assured and slick. They do seem to be in it for the long haul, the 49ers," Maguire told Football Insider.

"I think Marathe’s view is that Leeds are a sleeping giant as opposed to a giant.

"If you compare Leeds to Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal, who are the American-owned peer group, he feels Leeds can progress both on the pitch and financially within the existing financial framework.

"Also, you need the existing football framework for an ambitious football club like Leeds to achieve its potential."
