Football fans were livid after NFL RedZone couldn’t broadcast a crucial OT between the 49ers and Raiders

Amidst a NFL late game schedule littered with blowouts, only the San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders were keeping things interesting with a close match. Unfortunately, unless you lived locally to either city, many NFL fans missed overtime between the two teams completely.

On Sunday, the 49ers and Raiders went into overtime after Robbie Gould missed a 41-yard field goal at the end of the fourth quarter. Due to the way RedZone works, the broadcast can’t carry just one game when all the others end — alongside the late game overtime rules — so NFL fans were prompted to head over to their local Fox affiliate to watch the rest of the game.

The problem? Only a few markets were showing the Raiders and 49ers overtime, due to CBS having the double header and the game not being broadcast nationally. As Tashaun Gipson made a key interception to set the 49ers up for a game-winning field goal, many NFL fans looking to watch an exciting overtime period were left out in the cold.

This is the second time in the last six weeks that NFL RedZone has come under fire for cutting off its broadcast ahead of a big moment. And the second time the Raiders have been impacted by it as well this season! TV blackout restrictions are tough, there’s no doubt, but there has to be a better way to resolve this that doesn’t leave the majority of football fans hanging.

NFL fans were irate about the sudden end of NFL RedZone ahead of a major overtime between the 49ers and Raiders.
