Football fans sing anti-German chant before Aston Villa match

A video has emerged showing football fans singing an anti-German chant ahead of Aston Villa's pre-season friendly against Bundesliga side RB Leipzig during the summer.

In the clip, fans have congregated in a central location in the city of Leipzig before the clash at the Red Bull Arena, which the English outfit went on to win 3-1.

Supporters can be heard singing 'Ten German Bombers', a chant to the tune of 'Ten Green Bottles' about the RAF's efforts to stop the German Luftwaffe during World War II.

The footage has emerged just days after Villa fans became embroiled in controversy for singing a racist song during their team's 5-1 success at Norwich in the Premier League .

While the Villans were enjoying a comfortable win at Carrow Road on Saturday, footage shared on social media showed sections of the away support singing a chant featuring several racial stereotypes that made reference to the club's midfielder Marvelous Nakamba and another player.

The Villa Park acted quickly once footage from the weekend came to light and issued a statement on Monday condemning the chant.

The statement read: "Aston Villa is disgusted and appalled by footage circulating on social media of supporters chanting a racist song which makes reference to two of our first team players.

"The club wholly condemns the chant and urges other supporters to help us identify those responsible.

"Chants of this nature besmirch the good name of Aston Villa Football Club and our fans. If the perpetrators are identified they will be dealt with in the strongest manner by the club and be reported to the Police immediately.

"Our security staff will be vigilant at forthcoming games to ensure that anybody attempting repetition of this chant will be dealt with severely.

"We know we can rely on the assistance of the majority of our fans to eradicate this toxic behaviour immediately.

"If anyone has any information please contact the club on 0121 327 2299."

Aston Villa FC have been contacted for comment.
