Football fans love Charlie Adam response to infamous tweet about Man City player Sergio Aguero

Football fans applauded Charlie Adam's tweet after he responded to an infamous post following confirmation of the news Sergio Aguero will leave Manchester City at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old's time at the Etihad Stadium will draw to a close when his contract expires this summer after ten years at the club.

Aguero 's departure has seen a famous tweet from Ollie Holt, Chief Sports Writer for the Daily Mail, dug up from the archives, where he wrote: "Aguero will be the highest-profile signing of summer so far if it happens. Still think Charlie Adam to Liverpool could be best though."

That tweet was posted in July 2011 and has been retweeted by over 24,000 people since.

Adam had just moved from Blackpool to Liverpool for £8million but clearly never reached the heights Aguero did at City and he responded to that same tweet himself.

The Scot wrote: "I think he did ok in the end," along with crying laughing emoji. "What a player he has been for City."

Barcelona have been installed as the bookmakers' favourites to sign Aguero on a free transfer.

Whilst the Argentine has struggled with injuries in the last year, his pedigree makes him a very attractive free agent, netting 257 goals in 384 appearances for City, especially given the financial impact of COVID-19 on the transfer market.

Aguero could fancy a return to La Liga too, to team up with good friend Lionel Messi, though the 33-year-old is also out of contract at the Nou Camp this summer.

City, meanwhile, are confident in their chances of signing Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland as Aguero's replacement.
