A football fan who assaulted a police officer at a Liverpool FC match has been handed a football banning order.
Anthony Byrne admitted assaulting a police officer at Anfield on December 29 last year.
The 42-year-old, of Redbank Close, today pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer.
Byrne attacked the officer at Anfield when Liverpool won one-nil against Wolverhampton at home.
He appeared at Sefton Magistrates' Court this morning (September 15) where he was due to face a trial over the offence, but at the eleventh hour admitted assaulting the police officer.

He was handed a three-year football banning order and was fined £600 ordered to pay £400 compensation and costs of £150.
A football banning order is often made alongside criminal charges which involve violence, racial abuse, or other offences, at regulated football matches.

If a defendant is jailed courts can impose a banning order ranging from a minimum of six years to a maximum of 10 years.
When an order is made and the defendant is not jailed, this range changes to a minimum of three years and a maximum of five years.
The order is made under the Football Spectators Act 1989 and under the order defendants are prevented from attending regulated football matches either at home or abroad for the duration.
