Football fan "ashamed of conduct" after fighting with police at Fir Park

A football fan who fought with police officers at Fir Park told a court he’s ashamed of his conduct.

William Dean had travelled from Ayrshire to watch Kilmarnock play Motherwell in a Premiership fixture on Boxing Day last year.

He admitted shouting abuse after being ordered to leave the stadium, running back into the ground and struggling with police officers.

Dean, 37, of Woodbank Road, Crosshouse, Kilmarnock, told Hamilton Sheriff Court he was angry because a child he was with was still in the ground.

He also said he had broken his shoulder when he slipped on steps and the police handcuffs hurt him.

Dean admitted he had a drink problem, adding: “I’m deeply ashamed and sorry.

“I haven’t had a drink since this incident.”

The court heard Dean has previous convictions including one for football-related disorder.

Sheriff Ray Small deferred sentence until August and imposed a special bail condition.

This bans Dean from attending any regulated football match.
