Football Cup Barcelona invite for Northern Ireland Football Development Academy teens

A Northern Ireland Football Development Academy Under 15 squad is heading to Spain this weekend.

The team, based at Ulster University, Jordanstown will be taking part in the prestigious Football Cup Barcelona international youth football tournament.

Held in Salou and Cambrils area in the south of Barcelona, the high-quality competition is for boys and girls.

It will be played at the impressive Futbul Salou with 8 full-size fields – four high-quality natural grass (two hybrid fields) and four latest generation artificial grass fields.

Around 100 teams from 10 countries will participate in this superb tournament approved by Catalan Football Federation (FFF) and Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

The experience is a perfect combination with two days full of matches, first class football venue and accommodation as well as a visit to the Port Aventura theme park.

The Northern Ireland squad of 14 boys is made up of players who play for club sides Crusaders, Cliftonville, Linfield, Ballymena, St. Mary's, Bangor and Carrick Rangers and are coached by Stephen Small.

“We know this tournament and the first class facilities very well having taken teams in last few years and it is an unbelievable experience for these young lads," Small said.

"Travelling, living and playing together develops life long memories and is a big part in their football development. We play three qualifying games on Saturday with opposition from Yorkshire, Sweden and Republic of Ireland.

"The boys will also play two games on Sunday, based on the first three games results. We have a great group of boys and parents and I’ve no doubt they will represent our academy and country well.

"I would like to thank Profile Sports Event Management for their organisational support and securing sponsorships."
