Football coach Ryan Cossettini from Musselburgh died after A1 crash in Northumbria

A football coach from Musselburgh died after a road crash on the A1 in Northumbria last week.

Ryan Cossettini was killed after his Volkswagen Golf left the carriageway north of Alnwick at around 3.20am on Friday.

Youth Football Scotland posted a social media tribute to the 25-year-old, describing him as a player and coach "much loved by all at Tranent Juniors and Musselburgh Grammar School".

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash shortly before 3.30am on Friday and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chronicle Live reports that his family are currently being supported by specially-trained officers from Northumbria Police and an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances.

Sergeant Craig Bartle from the motor patrols department said: "We are now carrying out an investigation to understand the events leading up to the collision.

"We have family liaison officers in place who are supporting Ryan's family and would ask that their privacy is respected.

"Our thoughts remain with them at this incredibly difficult time."

Officers want to hear from anyone who was driving in the area at the time, and are urging motorists with dashcam footage from the area to come forward.

Contact police on 101 quoting reference 97 120719.
