Football clubs and figures send messages of support to Bury FC after EFL expulsion

Bury FC have received a flood of supportive messages after their Football League status was rescinded on Tuesday, following the collapse of a prospective takeover.

The Shakers were given until 5pm on Tuesday to resolve their situation or face expulsion from the EFL, after being given an extension from a previous deadline of 11:59pm on Friday.

While fans were optimistic for a positive outcome, heartbreak occurred just over an hour before the deadline as C&N Sporting Risk announced they had pulled out of a deal to purchase the League One side.

The EFL then confirmed late on Tuesday evening that Bury had been expelled from the Football League, with Bolton Wanderers given a 14-day deadline to avoid suffering the same fate.

Bury became the first side since Maidstone United in 1992 to be expelled from the Football League and are the only FA Cup winning side in history to suffer the fate.

Their demise was followed by a flood of supportive messages on social media from across the world of football, with many calling for change to the EFL's ownership regulations.
