A football club facing having to close because of a shortage of players was left "speechless" when 30 new players turned up for training.
Tonyrefail Welfare AFC had appealed for help on social media last week, tweeting out a "last cry" for new players to join them.
The team feared that he would have to close after 100 years at the heart of the community because it could not get enough players. See the full story here.
But on Tuesday night, July 20, 30 new players turned up to The Welfare Pitch, Tonyrefail to play in the 30 degree heat.
Committee member Fraser Williams had feared that the club he grew up playing for would close. Yet he is now looking forward to building a bright future.
He said: “What a night. We have a team. Going forward we are looking forward to Saturdays game and building on this foundation for a bright future."
The team are currently in the Devonalds Solicitors Rhondda & District Championship, which is in the eighth tier of the Welsh football pyramid and has a history dating back to 1925.
Most of the club's success came in the 1950s and 1960s when they played in the South Wales Amateur League - which they won in 1951. They were also runners up in the South Wales Senior Cup in 1954, 1967 and 1969.
