Football club shares powerful message on World Mental Health Day

A Mid Ulster football club has shared a powerful video message on World Mental Health Day.

FC Mindwell were set up during lockdown and are dedicated to helping people with mental health issues.

The club - whose players include former Northern Ireland stars Keith Gillespie and Roy Carroll - play in Mid Ulster's Division Three.

Mindwell plans to support and help its members, players and fans by offering resources and information enabling them to seek help or talk about any issues they may have.

They have already had a positive impact on the lives of the players who have represented the club since its formation.

On Saturday morning they released a stirring video to coincide with World Mental Health Day.

In it, players Decky Allister and Kevin Henry share stories about their own mental health battles, dealing with issues including alcohol and substance abuse, and bereavement.

They also talk about the powerful and positive impact FC Mindwell has had on their lives.

FC Mindwell work in conjunction with the Links Counselling Service, a charity that provides therapeutic support to the community with the aim to prevent mental health illness from occurring in families and individuals by offering early intervention.

In Saturday's Facebook post the club urged anyone who needed help to contact the group.

Links Counselling's telephone number is 028 3834 2825 or you can contact Lifeline on 0808 808 8000 or the Samaritans on 116 23.
