Footage shows rubbish dumped all over Inchydoney beach in Clonakilty, Co Cork

The number one beach in Ireland has been left in a state after cans, bottles and clothing were left in piles on Tuesday morning.

A local videographer was out on Inchydoney beach in Clonakilty, Co Cork when he noticed all the rubbish spread across the dunes.

Inchydoney Beach was only recently voted the best beach in the whole country by Tripadvisor and is treasured by locals, Cork Beo reports.

Chris O'Connor of Cojo Films said: "Environmental issues seemed to be at the forefront in the recent European and council elections but, plainly, the message doesn't appear to have reached a selfish minority.

"Guess it's someone else's job to come and clear up this mess. Bottles, cans, towels and discarded clothing."

The West Cork beach is known for being one of the most beautiful and clean in Ireland with Tripadvisor reviewers often praising it for those exact reasons.

Just last month a reviewer said: "Fabulous place to walk, spotlessly clean, beautiful beach. Great to walk the dog and clear away the cobwebs."
