Footage shows motorbike 'chasing' boys on bikes moments before alleged Litherland shooting

Dashcam footage obtained by the ECHO appears to show a motorbike chasing cyclists moments before .

Police cordoned off a busy Litherland junction tonight following carried out by a passenger on a motorbike.

The video shows a bike with two riders on driving at speed across the Gorsey Lane and Sterrix Lane junction, near to where the incident was reported to have happened.

The bike appears to emerge from a footpath and drive across the junction and onto Gorsey Lane, narrowly missing passing cars.

The actions of the rider led those in the vehicle recording its journey to express concern over how the motorbike was being ridden - and suggest it was chasing a group of males on pushbikes caught weaving in and out of traffic a split second earlier.

The junction is currently cordoned off by Merseyside Police in the incident.

The force was called to the area just after 5.30pm following reports of a shooting.

Those reports suggested the attack had been carried out by the passenger on a motorbike and targeted at males on pushbikes.

Further footage seen by the ECHO confirms the dashcam video was taken this evening, and around the same time the unconfirmed shooting was reported.

Drivers are being advised to avoid the area as traffic is being diverted away from Gorsey Lane and Sterrix Lane via Green Lane and Hatton Hill.

If the incident is confirmed as a shooting it will be the fourth gun attack in a week on Merseyside, following incidents in Bootle, Kirkby and Kensington.

A police spokeswoman said: "We are currently investigating with officers carrying out house-to-house enquiries and we are currently looking at CCTV but also encourage anyone that witnessed the incident, or who has information - including passing vehicles with dashcam footage - to direct message (on Twitter) @MerPolCC or call 101 quoting log 0731 of July 8."
