Footage shows man smashed over head with bottle after being chased through bus station

CCTV footage has been released of a brutal attack at Rochdale bus station.

The victim, in his 40s, suffered two black eyes and a broken shoulder after a bottle was smashed against the back of his head.

Two men began chasing the victim from Rochdale Town Centre Metrolink station at around 6pm on Thursday, December 27.

They then caught up with him, before breaking the glass over his head, causing him to fall to the ground.

He was taken to hospital following the assault and is still recovering at home from his injuries, officers said.

Police launched an investigation and have now released CCTV footage of the incident. They are asking anyone who recognises the men in the video to get in touch.

In the video, the men can be seen swiping at the victim as he runs through the station. They then carry on into the main concourse.

They finally catch up with him, and the victim is seen falling to the floor on the CCTV footage.

The pair then run away out of the door.

Det Sgt Paul Davies from GMP’s Rochdale District said: “This was a nasty assault that resulted in significant injuries for the victim and we are now appealing for the public to help us identify the men featured in this footage.”

“Do you recognise them or have any information that can assist us?

“There are also a number of potential witnesses to this crime who were in the bus station at the time.
