Footage shows wild weather moment Loch Fyne bursts its banks and swamps road traffic

This is the frightening moment drivers in the west coast of Scotland were hit by the full force of Storm Brendan .

Scotland has been battered by heavy rain and strong winds throughout Monday with rail, road and ferry services affected by the weather.

Drivers near Inveraray on the A83 road were engulfed by water after Loch Fyne , Argyll and Bute , burst its bank.

In a clip posted online cars and vans can be seen struggling to get through the water which covers the entire road.

At one point it's hard to see where the loch ends and the roads starts.

Waves can be seen crashing against the banks as vehicles reach the bridge on the outskirts of Inveraray village.

The worsening conditions on the road between Loch Fyne and Tarbet forced authorities to close the road shortly after the film was posted on Facebook.

Storm Brendan has been battering Scotland and Northern Ireland over the course of today.

Winds of up to 80mph are expected to hit some coastal areas with a large amount of disruption expected.
