Footage shows dramatic moment car bursts into flames while driving outside the Four Courts

A Dublin driver had a lucky escape this morning after their car burst into flames outside along the quays in the city centre this morning.

The car was travelling along Inns Quay when it caught fire just outside the Four Courts at around 9:30am.

Gardai and Dublin Fire Brigade raced to the scene and the busy road was closed off while the blaze was brought under control.

A DFB spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "At approximately 0930 this morning the Eastern Regional Control Centre received 999/112 call reporting a car on fire outside the Four Courts on Inns Quay.

"Fire appliances from Phibsborough Fire Station responded to the scene.

"Firefighters in Breathing Apparatus extinguished the fire using a high-pressure hose reel. There were no injuries on scene and the road was closed for a period to allow Firefighters to work safely.

"The scene was handed over to An Garda Síochána to arrange for the vehicle’s removal."

Footage from the scene shows thick smoke billowing from the engine as firefighters wok to extinguish them.

A witness told Dublin Live there were two people in the car but they managed to get to safety.

He said: "Nobody was hurt. There were two people in the car and they got out. No ambulance was on scene."

A garda spokeswoman said enquires into the cause of the blaze are ongoing.

She said: "Gardai attended the scene of an incident on Inns Quay, Dublin 7 this morning, Monday 7 December 2020 at approximately 9.30am.

"A car was on fire. Garda Roads Policing Units closed a section of the quays to all traffic.

"Fire services also attended the scene to tend to the fire. No injuries were reported. Enquiries are ongoing."
