Footage shows Cork man dubbed 'Bee Whisperer' carrying bee cluster from tree without protection

A Cork man has been dubbed the 'Bee Whisperer' after a video showed him removing a massive bee swarm from a tree - without protection.

Mark, who collects bee swarms and nurses them into hives, showed nerves of steel as he was filmed carrying a massive bee-ball without any protection or worry he'd get stung.

The swarm season is upon us, but there's nothing to fear as this beekeeper will happily take these bees away and nurture them.

The video uploaded by Bee Swarm Removal Cork shows them making the job of removing them look easy - but it's far from it and definitely not recommended as they say there is a risk you'll get stung, Cork Beo reports.

In the footage, Mark is seen taking a swarm from a tree in Kinsale before slowly walking over and placing them in a box.

The group says the bees are now doing great and have produced a small amount of capped honey already.

Despite the scary threat of being stung by the creatures, swarms tend not to be aggressive, according to the team who say you should contact a keeper who will often collect them for free so they can use them to start hives.

According to Mark from Cork Swarm Removal, you shouldn't spray any pesticides at them as they're "beneficial insects" that don't need exterminating.

He says: "Moreover, even though the bees are not aggressive during swarming, you run the risk of getting stung if you try to spray them.

"Do contact a beekeeper. Swarms are valuable to beekeepers because they can be used to start new hives, so beekeepers will often come collect a swarm free of charge.

"If you don’t know any beekeepers, please contact us and we will contact a bee keeper in your area."

He said bees will move on in their own time if left, so there's no need to disturb them if they've moved in to your garden.

He said: "Avoid disturbing the swarm. The bees will eventually leave once they have identified a new permanent home, which could be in your roof.

"This leads to a far more difficult situation and could damage your home."

And although he's seen in the video making it look easy, Mark also says it's not something "for the unequipped to try themselves".

He says: "Bee swarm removal is not something for the unequipped to try themselves, but that does not mean you have to call in the pest control company or the bee exterminator.

"It’s possible to have bees removed humanely and sometimes even free of charge."
