Footage shows construction of crane which will be used to demolish front of Broadmarsh centre

Timelapse footage shows a huge crane being installed in Nottingham city centre as part of the redevelopment of intu Broadmarsh.

When the £89 million regeneration is complete in 2021, the glass-fronted building will include a new bowling alley, run by Hollywood Bowl, restaurants, high street shops and a Light cinema.

The crane, which was installed last weekend, will carry out the "phased demolition" of the existing front of the shopping centre which will then be fitted with steel, glazing and cladding to make way for the new cinema.

Roads were shut from 10pm on Friday (October 11) so a crane tower could be put up as part of the long-awaited revamp of the shopping centre.

Collin Street and part of Maid Marian Way were closed from the junction with Friar Lane to the junction with Middle Hill.

Nottingham City Council's transport department tweeted, at 5.30pm on Sunday (October 13), to say the road was back open.

Nigel Wheatley, intu Broadmarsh centre director, said: “Thank you for bearing with us over the weekend.

"The crane was erected successfully and is now in action helping to progress the exciting regeneration of intu Broadmarsh, which is now coming on really well ahead of completion in summer 2021.”

The redevelopment of the shopping mall is part of a wider £250 million regeneration scheme of the Broadmarsh area, which includes the demolition and rebuild of the car park and bus station.
