Footage shows car that burst into flames on residential street in Cardiff

This footage shows a car that's just burst into flames in a residential area of Cardiff .

Black smoke could be seen pumping from the vehicle and the smell was described as "intense".

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed officers were called to the scene at approximately 2.47pm on Tuesday, October 8 after receiving reports of vehicle fire on Heath Mead in Cardiff.

A crew from Roath attended the scene and extinguished the fire and the stop message was received at 3.22pm.

An eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "l turned the corner onto the square and heard loud popping noises then I saw the smoke coming up from behind the house.

"A few other people from the housing area were looking what was happening but with no massive urgency.

"I walked around the corner where a DPD van was parked up driver on the phone to fire brigade, but it had already been called."

"The smoke was really thick at times and the smell horrendous," she added.

"You could hear explosions from the car, then the flames caught on the nearby fence and spread really quickly.

"The smoke was too thick and the smell too intense to stay."
