Footage shows Army Bomb Disposal Unit at scene as Department of Health on Baggot Street evacuated after 'suspicious white powder package' found

This is the moment the Army Bomb Disposal Unit raced to the scene after a suspicious package was discovered at the Department of Education this afternoon.

Baggot Street was closed and the Department evacuated after a 'suspicious white powder package' was found in their buildings at around 1:30pm.

An envelope believed to contain "white powder" was discovered at the building.

Gardai and units from Dublin Fire Brigade can also be seen attending the incident.

Emergency services remain at the scene this afternoon.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardai are currently at the scene of the incident after the discovery of a suspicious parcel.

"Further details will be provided later this afternoon."

A witness at the scene told Dublin Live: "Hazmat fire brigades were lashing down towards it in last few mins."

Dublin Fire Brigade said: "Firefighters from Donnybrook and Tara St fire stations are currently attending an incident on Lower Baggot Street.

"Our HazMat unit is attending as a precaution. Traffic restrictions in place."

AA Roadwatch has advised motorists to avoid the area.

They said: "Baggot St Lwr is closed to inbound traffic at Pembroke Row due to an incident. Avoid the area if possible."

The facility on Baggot Street in Dublin was previously evacuated back in March after a suspect package was sent to former Health Minister Simon Harris.

The Defence Forces and Bomb Disposal Unit were deployed to deal with the incident, with the entire street closed off.

It later emerged that the suspicious material was deemed to be "non-hazardous" by technicians, and the building was allowed to reopen.
