Footage reveals climbers' final moments before deadly Himalayan avalanche

Indian authorities have released vision of the final moments of eight climbers, including Australian Ruth McCance, whose bodies were recovered in the Himalayas.

The video shows the team crossing a dangerous ridge on India's second-highest mountain, Nanda Devi, before going blank.

The camera was found buried in the snow close to where seven of the climbers' bodies were found.

The eighth climber remains missing after the search was suspended due to harsh weather.

The ashes of Sydney woman McCance will be returned to Australia.

Meanwhile, the Indo-Tibetan border police who carried out the dangerous recovery mission have been congratulated at a ceremony for their efforts in the search.

They were brave enough to volunteer to go on foot to reach the spot, which has a terrain altitude of almost 6,400 metres.

Nanda Devi and its sister mountain, Nanda Devi East, are among the world's most challenging peaks and only a handful of people have climbed them.

This climbing season in the Himalayas has been one of the deadliest for several years.

More than 20 people have been killed including at least 11 on Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, in Nepal, due to bad weather conditions, inexperienced climbers and overcrowding.
