Footage of 'illegal' Scots rave at former steelworks probed by cops after videos shared online

Police have launched a probe after footage of an alleged 'illegal' Scots rave was shared online.

Footage shows large crowds gathered in a tight space to party. The videos were allegedly taken on Saturday night in part of the former Ravenscraig steelworks site in Motherwell.

As large gatherings are currently banned, the rave would be a breach of Covid rules.

Revellers were filmed listening to DJs and dancing at the venue.

Cops didn't attend the scene as no report was made to them but say they are probing the footage to establish if a breach of Covid regulations took place.

Motherwell, along with the rest of Scotland, is currently in level 3 which means people must stay two meters away from other people and large crowds are banned.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Officers were not called to any gathering of this nature in this area on Saturday, 8 May, however we are aware of videos posted online.

"We are looking into the matter at this time to establish if further police action is required.”
