Footage from the scene as man is taken to hospital after alleged assault in Ashington

Three people have been arrested after an alleged assault in Northumberland.

A man was taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital following the incident in Ashington in the early hours of Saturday morning but has since been released.

Police were called to Woodhorn Drive in Stakeford following reports that a man had been assaulted.

A cordon was also put in place nearby at the B&M store on Freeman Way which is linked to the investigation but police could not confirm any further details.

Officers say the man suffered "non-life-threatening injuries".

An investigation is under way and two men and one woman have now been arrested and remain in custody.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: "Just before 4.30am this morning, police received a report of an assault at Woodhorn Drive in Stakeford.

"Officers attended and a male aged 40 was taken to hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

"Two males aged 44 and 45 and a 44-year-old female have been arrested and are currently assisting police with their enquiries.

"An investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 145 of 16/05/20 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
