Footage emerges of Rory McIlroy staying late into night to sign autographs for fans long after sinking winning putt

Footage has emerged of Rory McIlroy staying behind hours after sinking his winning putt at the CJ Cup to sign autographs for fans.

McIlroy returned to world number one in the golf rankings on Monday morning after he successfully defended his CJ Cup crown.

The Northern Ireland man was last at the top of the rankings back in July 2020 and has put together some of his best golf to return to the summit.

And McIlroy made his return in style as he defended his CJ Cup title with an impressive win where he battled off Jon Rahm among others to win the title.

And as McIlroy was whisked off to sign his scorecard, be presented with the trophy and fulfil all his obligations, there were dozens of fans waiting for the Down man.

And McIlroy returned to sign hats and pose for photos for those who waited.

The four tine major winner was praised on social media for his actions.

One user said: "Class act"

While another said: "A true great"
