Footage appears to show dolphin swimming in Mersey

Video footage appearing to show a dolphin swimming in the River Mersey has been caught by a stunned onlooker.

Philip Nixon shared a video after he claimed he spotted the dolphin on Wednesday morning, at about 9am.

Mr Nixon said the video was taken from the Royal Albert Dock estate office.

Footage shows an animal surging through the water as it appears to be swimming alone.

The animal was spotted at about 9.30am on Wednesday (Philip nixon)

It's not the first time the stunning sea creatures have been spotted close to home either, after a pod of dolphins were filmed swimming in Liverpool Bay last year.

Amazing footage also showed dolphins frolicking just off the coast of Ainsdale.

According to Mersey Estuary Conservation group, harbour porpoise, bottlenose dolpin and common dolpins are the most spotted in our area.
