Footage appearing to show Scotland star Oli McBurnie in a street brawl has not yet been reported to police.
North Yorkshire Police told the Daily Record they have not received a report of the incident, but are now appealing for anyone involved to come forward so they can "support the victim".
McBurnie, who plays for English Premier League side Sheffield United, appears to be at the centre of the viral video which has circulated on Twitter.
The club said it was aware of the footage and is investigating the incident.
Football intelligence officers have now confirmed the incident was filmed in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, on the town's Main Street.
In the 25 second clip, a man who looks like McBurnie walks towards the camera while another man holding the phone and recording seems to slur his name.
In the next few seconds the phone is on the ground pointing to the sky while the man who is allegedly the 16-capped, 24-year-old stamps on it.
A fight breaks out with the phone on the ground still rolling and capturing punches being thrown between the two.
A man with a Northern English accent can be heard saying "take your boy away now" as the phone is picked up and the camera shows the wider group that has gathered.
The footage was uploaded on Sunday and has been watched thousands of times.
It is unclear from the footage what led to the incident.
McBurnie was born and grew up in Leeds, Yorkshire, and plays for the Scotland team due to his Scottish parents.
He was signed by Sheffield in 2019 after a spell at Swansea.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "We would encourage anyone involved in this incident to report it to the police so the circumstances surrounding the incident can be established and support offered to the victim."
Sheffield United said in a statement: "Officials at Sheffield United are aware of the video circulating on social media and are currently investigating."
The Scottish Football Association and McBurnie have been contacted for comment.
