Foot Locker is leaving Market Street for flagship new store that is double the size

Foot Locker is leaving Market Street for a flagship new store twice the size.

The sportswear and footwear brand is moving to a split level, 14,000 sq ft unit in Halle Mall in the Arndale.

It follows many years of strong trade at its 7,372 sq ft unit on Market Street.

The new unit will open next year and with space for events, demonstrations and customer interaction.

Colin Flinn, regional managing director at intu, commenting on behalf of the joint owners of the Arndale, said: "Foot Locker’s commitment to Manchester Arndale, doubling its store footprint with a new and innovative experience-led store, is testament to the centre’s continued popularity and reputation amongst retailers.

"Foot Locker’s expansion reinforces Manchester Arndale as one of the north’s leading fashion hubs."

"In recent months, we have seen a number of leading brands join our line- up, creating an impressive mix of clothing and footwear options to suit all tastes."

It comes after Uniqlo opened its flagship store for the north at Manchester Arndale earlier this year.

The Japanese clothing brand has proved to be a hit with Mancunians, sparking queues of hundreds of shoppers when it began selling the last ever collection with artist KAWS.

AllSaints also recently moved to a new location as part of a mini revamp of the Arndale.

The fashion retailer has signed a new ten-year lease on a unit on New Cannon Street, the indoor mall strip that is also home to similar brands such as Topman, Gap and River Island.

Cult make-up brand Morphe will be opening its first Manchester store, taking over what was previously Clinton Cards.
