Foot injury forces Bears receiver Marquess Wilson to miss practice

Dec. 04--Bears receiver Marquess Wilson missed practice Thursday because he hurt one of his feet in Wednesday's practice, coach John Fox said.

Wilson's injury further depletes the Bears receiving corps as the team prepare for Sunday's game against the 49ers. Eddie Royal (left knee) has not practiced this week and is on course to miss his fifth straight game.

Of course, that's nothing new. The Bears have had their top three receivers on the active roster -- Alshon Jeffery, Royal and Wilson -- together for only three of 11 games this season. And in the first of those, Week 1 against the Packers, a strained left calf limited Jeffery.

Wilson's status for Sunday is unclear. His 464 receiving yards rank second on the team, and his 28 receptions are third.

If he can't play, he would become the Bears' fourth first-stringer to miss a game because of an injury he suffered in practice.

Jeffery injured his groin injury on Nov. 11 and missed the Broncos loss. Rookie center Hronis Grasu sat out three games because of a neck injury he suffered Oct. 28. And Antrel Rolle has missed two games and counting because of a right knee injury that occurred Nov. 20.

Like Rolle, Wilson was hurt on the last play of practice, Fox said. The coach was asked jokingly if he has considered shortening practice by one play.

"I wish I could time it out that well," he said.

In the wake of Rolle's injury, Fox bristled on Nov. 23 in response to a question about the benefit of having physical practices.

"Understanding sport, I don't how many golfers go out and work on their half-swings or in tennis they work half-speed to practice," he said. "It's a professional sport, and you have to practice it to get better at it or stay finely tuned."
