'Foolish decision!' - Chelsea fans respond after Christensen red card amid VAR call vs Liverpool

Chelsea fans have been reacting to Andreas Christensen's red card against Liverpool.

The Blues defender was initially given a yellow card in the first half of Chelsea's clash with Liverpool this evening after he dragged down Sadio Mane.

But after reviewing the VAR monitor, Paul Tierney upgraded it to a red card with Mane clearly the last man and with goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga also approaching.

As pointed out by Opta, Christensen was the first Chelsea player to be sent off in the Premier League since 5th February 2018 when Tiemoue Bakayoko was given his marching orders, breaking an 89-match streak.

He is also the first to be sent off in this particular fixture since his boss Frank Lampard was shown red in 2009.

Chelsea fans have been reacting to the decision on Twitter.

Here is what they have had to say.

The red card came just before half-time, one minute into stoppage time, and the teams went in at the break with the deadlock yet to be broken.

Fikayo Tomori was brought on at half-time for Kai Havertz with Lampard closing the gap left by Christensen.

Though, Liverpool still managed to score twice through Sadio Mane, leading 2-0 at time of writing.
