Foodies nuts for vegan market

IT wasn't as packed as the event's debut two months ago, but the second instalment of the Newcastle Vegan Market enjoyed a "better vibe" on Sunday with thousands wandering through to sample all things plant based, cruelty-free and vegan.

Organisers were "blown away" after between 5000 and 8000 people attended the first Newcastle Vegan Market at The Station in August and were encouraged by a "solid crowd" of about 4000 on Sunday.

"It's been great," Newcastle Vegan Market coordinator Dylan Weir said.

"We've had a solid turnout. Not quiet as big as last time, but a really solid crowd and a better vibe than last time. We had more stalls, great weather and it was less packed than last time so people could see more of the markets."

Organisers said there were 72 stalls at the market on Sunday, including an array of vendors serving food from sausage rolls, pies and cheesecakes to Thai street food, souvlaki and Southern-fried burgers.
