Foodies gobsmacked as they discover the 'truth' about Penguin chocolate bars

Penguin bars are up there with some of the most iconic British lunchtime treats.

They're crunchy, chocolatey, gooey - and they even come with a not-so-funny joke - what more could you ask for?

But apparently, Penguin bars are actually just chocolate covered Bourbons - and it's blowing everyone's minds.

Jake, the creator behind the @anoynomousaccount on TikTok, made the discovery after dipping the chocolate bar into his cup of tea.

In a video that has been viewed more than one million times, Jake showed that once the chocolatey coating had melted, a biscuit that looked scarily similar to a Bourbon. was hiding beneath it.

Everyone was stunned (tiktok)

It was captioned: "How old were you when you found out a Penguin was a Bourbon covered in chocolate!!!!"

Since being posted, the video has racked up more than 170,000 likes and 12,000 comments from stunned viewers.

One person who was left in disbelief said: "Naaaaaaaaaaa stop."

Another baffled viewer wrote: "Wait but I hate Bourbons but love Penguins?"

It does look like a Bourbon... (tiktok)

"BYE I JUST ATE ONE TODAY AFTER YEARS AND THIS WAS MY EXAT THOUGHT WHILST EATING IT," commented a third.

While someone else admitted: "Today years old."

But not everyone was convinced as one person said: "Na, different taste to a Bourbon."

"I feel like they've just dunked a Bourbon in tea and said it was a Penguin bar," said another.

This isn't the only chocolate treat that's got people talking recently.

Tesco sparked a debate among customers after it asked which aisle McVitie's new Jaffa Jonuts should be stocked.

On Twitter, it gave shoppers the choice between the cake, biscuit or donut aisle - and there were some pretty controversial suggestions.
