Foodies Fooled Into Raving About A Burger King Meal

A focus group of foodies ate their words after raving about a ‘gourmet’ meal from Burger King.

Comedian Laura Smyth fronted a seemingly normal taster session to try out a range of artisan burgers.

They were described as a new premium ‘fusion burger’ brand – ‘Gourmet Kings’ – soon to launch exclusively on Deliveroo.

The panel of foodies unwittingly tucked into two Smoky Chimichurri burgers, either chicken or beef, from the high street brand.

Laura pushed for thoughts on the burgers, with the group truly believing they were from an independent gourmet restaurant.

The panel extolled the virtues of the ‘fresh’ ingredients from the rocket to the toasted brioche bun.

They praised the herbs and spices of the ‘flavorsome’ chimichurri and the combinations that ‘elevated’ them to high-end restaurant level.

One participant even declared the chicken burger the best he’d ever had.

Half of UK adults don’t think you can buy a gourmet burger from a fast food outlet

The group was gobsmacked when Smyth revealed the stunt was pulled off by Burger King.

It came ahead of the launch of the Smoky Chimichurri burger in restaurants from 1st August.

The set-up followed research which found 49% of Brits don’t think you can get gourmet burgers from a fast-food restaurant.

The study of 2,000 UK-based adults revealed 61% don’t think it’s possible to experience a decadent meal on a budget.

And 72% believe you have to be willing to pay a high price to enjoy a quality gourmet spread.

Half didn’t believe you could purchase an ‘affordable’ gourmet burger, with 39% believing only premium restaurants offer such menu items.

A spokesperson from Burger King UK said: ‘It’s a common misconception that gourmet food is out of reach.

“We wanted to prove that guests can enjoy a premium quality burger for great value with our new Smoky Chimichurri burger.’

Burger lovers can get their hands on the new Smoky Chimichurri with a buy-one-get-one-free offer from 28th July – 31st July via the Burger King app, before launching nationwide on 1st August.
