If you think banana bread can't be improved upon, then think again. The classic bake - and a staple in kitchens across the country during lockdown - is about to get an upgrade.
Foodies reckon the already-delicious dish can be made better with the addition of one unexpected ingredient. In great news, you can also use the tip to spruce up several other common recipes.
The popular trick, one that has the backing of chefs, was shared online after a Reddit post asked social media users to share their 'weird but life-changing' cooking hacks.
All sorts of hacks emerged, including adding lemon zest to garlic butter or storing ginger in the freezer, but one of the most-liked pertained to banana bread.

"Adding a splash of orange juice to pumpkin or banana bread," read one response that received over 900 likes. "The acidity really adds some brightness against the spices," they explained.
For seasoned chefs this probably comes as no surprise, especially given the popularity of orange zest as an ingredient. But many people were quick to thank the commenter for the advice - and share similar recommendations.
"I do this with carrot cake and zucchini bread too," someone added. A second person said: "I went to a shop where they added orange to their tomato soup and it was super good."
Another revealed: "The best sweet potato pie I’ve ever had used OJ as it’s secret ingredient." Meanwhile, a different baker replied: "Exactly the same with Apple Crumble too, a little orange juice poured over the fruit before topping adds a wonderful acidity."
Elsewhere, someone recommended: "Try adding a little crushed pineapple next time, that was a game changer for me." "I always add coconut milk. Creamy deliciousness," advised another baker.
Replying to a commenter who questioned how much juice to add, one fan of the trick said: "Probably 2 tbsp, I think. Maybe try just 1 tbsp and see if it’s enough to notice."
Sharing another tip, a different baker said: "Since it'll keep indefinitely, I use orange juice concentrate from the freezer and spoon out as much as I need when cooking."
