Foodie Meghan Markle forced to give up her favourite dish after marrying Prince Harry

Meghan Markle had to give up one of her favourite dishes after marrying Prince Harry and having to carry out public royal duties.

The former actress once admitted that one of her favourite things to make for dinner involved a "filthy and sexy" pasta made with courgettes.

However, when she began performing royal duties, she had to avoid adding a key ingredient to her much-loved spaghetti dish.

Prince Harry's wife was reportedly banned from eating shellfish while on the road - for fear she would fall ill.

This strict rule will have come as disappointing news for the self-proclaimed foodie who once said seafood was one of her favourite things to eat.

While working in the States as an actress, Meghan told The New Potato magazine her "ideal food day" would involve seafood pasta while sipping on a gin, vermouth and Campari cocktail.

“A leisurely dinner of seafood and pasta, and a negroni to cap off the night," she said.

Before joining the Royal Family, Meghan liked to share her recipes on her lifestyle blog under the name ‘The Tig’.

The former Suits actress said she was a dab hand at cooking seafood dishes "to please most palates".

But sadly those meals will have had to stay on the back burner after she married Prince Harry.

Royal butler Grant Harrold said the family do not eat seafood out of fear of getting food poisoning.

He told the Express: “It is a very sensible move to abandon having seafood when out and about on public duties.

“We don't want a member of the royal family having a serious reaction to food poisoning, especially if she is on an overseas tour.”

The Duchess of Sussex, 38, now lives miles away in Los Angeles with Harry, their son Archie Harrison, and daughter Lilibet Diana.

And after the couple's much-publicised split from the royal family in 2020, seafood will no doubt be back on the menu - but only on a weekend.

Meghan told Best Health in 2016 that she maintains a vegan plant-based diet during the week before treating herself on a weekend.

One of her recipes involved slow-roasting courgettes into a "filthy, sexy mush" for her pasta.

"The sauce gets so creamy, you'd swear there's tons of butter and oil in it, but it's just zucchini, water and a little bouillon," she told Delish.

Meghan also doesn't deny herself the odd plate of chips and loves a good red wine. Avoiding caffeine in the afternoon, she prefers a green juice for an energy boost.

She said she's normally more peckish at lunchtimes, so enjoys a heavier meal at that time of day, followed by a lighter dinner. Some of her other favourite lunches include sashimi and salads.

She was also reportedly banned from eating garlic before seeing the Queen. But as well as seafood she's now presumably also free to eat the stinky herb to her heart's content.
