Foodbank volunteer was in a 'bad patch' when he was caught driving with cannabis in his system

A drug driver was going through "a bad patch in life" when he was six times over the limit for cannabis in his system.

Police stopped foodbank volunteer Allan Halbert, 32, of Kilton Road, Worksop, in Kilton Road on July 6 last year in a Vauxhall Vectra.

He gave a positive blood test for Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol - one of at least 113 cannabinoids identified in cannabis - at a level of 12 micrograms per litre.

Callum Morris, prosecuting, told Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Monday (May 10): "So technically six times over the legal limit".

Halbert pleaded guilty to the offence and addressed magistrates, saying: "At the time, I had a bad patch in life".

He said he has been doing "everything I can to keep straight" and he volunteers at Bassetlaw foodbank. He is also a wielder on the railway.

Magistrate Kim Geering fined him £550, banned him from driving for 18 months, ordered he pay costs of £85 and a £55 victim surcharge.

She told Halbert: "You were six times over the legal limit".
