Foodbank's welcome donation from housebuilder

Basics foodbank has benefited from a £1000 from Barratt Homes’ community fund.

The housebuilder handed over the donation to volunteers with the charity, which has a distribution outlet in Airdrie as well as working in Motherwell and Wishaw, to help with its weekly running costs.

Running for the past decade, Basics has responded to the pandemic and the increased difficulty in getting to foodbanks during the Covid-19 crisis by working with an organisation which delivers food parcels into the community to ensure they reach those in need.

Foodbank manager David Shaw said: “This will go a long way to sustain what we’re doing in the communities we serve, and we’d like to thank Barratt Homes for their generous £1000 donation.”

Barratt Homes West Scotland’s finance director Suzanne Craven said: “The last few months have been a busy and challenging time and the work the foodbanks are carrying out is incredibly important; they’ve had to adapt and scale up due to the current circumstances, with many in the community depending on them.”

The housebuilder’s community fund, established last year, donates £1000 each month to a local organisation, nominated by employees, which works to “improve the quality of life for those living in the area”.
