Family hotel and restaurant Kelly’s Inn in Garvaghey, Co Tyrone has been a staple for those coming from near and far to the area for decades.
Opened by Tommy and Anne Kelly in 1937, the business has evolved over the decades with 14 rooms, a restaurant, lounge and a function room to cater for all sorts of occasions.
Despite it being known as a great meeting place and for their quality food, I had never set foot in Kelly’s Inn until this week.
On a jaunt up to Omagh for the day I said I would call in to try out the food - and I wasn’t disappointed.
The first thing I noticed when I walked in to the restaurant was how well decorated it was, very comfy seating and pretty luxurious looking.
When the menu arrived it had a list of classic pub grub, with fish and chips, steaks, and peppered chicken.
Everything ranged between £10 and around £15 and came with a side as well.
I went for the classic burger and chips – and it was a great choice.
It came heaped with lettuce, melted cheese, a mountain of crispy onions and a healthy scoop of an old favourite of mine - Ballymaloe relish.
The beef patty was a hefty size and perfectly cooked as well, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
With a generous portion of chips to go along with it, it was £10 all in and I definitely couldn’t fault it for value anyway.
It wasn’t overly busy when I visited (it was 3pm on a Tuesday, in fairness) but the staff couldn’t have been nicer and everything came out quickly.
All-in-all, Kelly’s would make a great pit stop if you’re passing through Garvaghey or if you’re looking for a local spot to head for a bite to eat.
