Food manufacturer Bakkavor issues major staff pay rise update

More details have been released over a pay rise for staff at a major food manufacturing company which was threatened with strike action.

The pay increase will apply to almost all of the firm's 14,000 employees, including colleagues at Bakkavor Desserts in Newark.

The increase means weekly earnings potential for staff could range from £364 to £510 depending on level of skill and shifts worked.

It follows a Bakkavor review of local pay rates at each of its 23 manufacturing sites.

Better pay is set to be introduced before the new year.

In a statement, a spokesman for the Sutton Bridge’s Site Employee Forum, the site based in Lincolnshire, said: “This extra pay increase helps recognise the hard work and dedication the team here at Sutton Bridge Meals are putting in to make this site world-class and produce great meals.

"It helps everyone feel valued and we appreciate this recognition.

"It’s a tough time for everyone right now and this goes some way to make it a little easier.”

It was reported last month that staff had been given a pay rise after the food manufacturer was threatened with strike action.

The pay increase is part of a broader package of benefits for staff.

Mike Edwards, chief operating officer UK at Bakkavor, said: “This is an important moment for us.

"Since the start of the pandemic, Bakkavor has remained open for business and I am incredibly proud of our colleagues around the UK that have gone the extra mile to maintain food supply to UK supermarkets at such a crucial time.”
