Lockdown restrictions are easing next week and scores of hospitality venues will be allowed to resume outdoor service to customers.
From Monday, April 12, pubs, restaurants, bars, and cafes in Newcastle city centre will be able to use pavement areas to serve people.
Here, we have listed the food hygiene ratings of nearly 80 businesses in the city centre and the Quayside area that can offer al fresco food and drink via pavement licences.
The list doesn’t feature venues that have beer gardens or outside spaces on their own premises – rather than on the public highway.
These ratings were taken from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website as they appeared on April 8, 2021.
The venues listed may be awaiting re-inspection and some of them may not have remained open during the pandemic.
None of the venues have a zero or one star - a zero means "urgent improvement is required" and one means "major improvement necessary".
There were sites with two stars, which means "improvement necessary". However, the majority of venues were given a five - where hygiene standards are "very good".
The rating scheme, run in partnership with councils, helps people to make more informed choices about where to buy and eat food. All ratings were correct as of April 8, 2021.
