Food delivery driver in hospital after being beaten with metal weapon on New Year's Eve

A food delivery driver is in hospital after being violently attacked and having his car stolen on New Year's Eve.

He had been delivering food to an address in Beech Avenue, New Basford, at around 8.15pm on December 31 when he was chased, struck repeatedly with a metal weapon and forced to hand over his car keys, police say.

The attacker, who was reportedly wearing a black hooded top and tracksuit trousers, then drove away in the victim’s car – a black VW Golf.

The victim is currently being treated in hospital.

No arrests have been made in connection with the attack at this stage as police appeal for information and witnesses.

Detective Sergeant Emma Pollard, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a nasty and sustained attack that left a man needing hospital treatment.

"We are obviously extremely keen to find the person responsible and would like the public’s help to bring them into custody.

“So if you witnessed any part of this incident, or saw the driver’s car immediately after the incident, please get in touch us as soon as possible.”

If you have any information about this incident please call police on 101 quoting incident 562 of 31 January.
