Food closures Ireland: Four Dublin businesses forced to close in September due to concerns by Safety Authority

Four Dublin food businesses were forced to close in September due to safety concerns.

Two takeaways and two retailers were issued with the closure orders by the Food Safety Authority but all four businesses have since reopened.

Take away restaurant East Oriental with an address at Unit 5 Brabazon Hall Ardee Street Dublin 8 closed on September 6 and reopened on September 16.

Retailer Stela Food Stores at Unit 8, Ringwood Centre Damastown Close, Mulhuddart Dublin 15 closed on September 18 and reopened on September 23.

Londis on 49 Grafton Street Dublin 2 closed on September 18 but reopened the following day.

While Tsangs Restaurant with an address at Littlepace Shopping Centre, Clonee, Dublin 15 was closed on September 18 but opened again on September 25.

The four establishments were part of eight in total that were forced to close throughout Ireland - the other closures were in Cork, Louth, Meath and Donegal.

The reasons why each business was told to close is still unknown with the details not expected to be available for around another week.

Commenting on the August closures last month Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive, FSAI emphasised that compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations should be of the highest priority for all food businesses.

She said: “Filthy conditions, unhygienic practices and a lack of adequate pest control measures being in place are the main reasons for August's Closure Orders.

"It is essential that food businesses have a strong food safety and hygiene culture in their business, which can be achieved through ongoing training of all members of their team.

"Food safety inspectors are continuing to encounter basic errors being made by food businesses which are easily avoidable."
