Food closures: Four Dublin businesses in the one area forced to close on the same day by the Safety Authority in June

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued five Dublin food businesses with closure orders for the month of June - with four of them coming on the same day in the same area.

On June 17, the FSAI issued closure orders to His Food, Steam Asian Street Food, Mroz and Gorace Gary which are all situated at Moore Street Mall.

Restaurant Gorace Gary, with an address of Moore Street Mall 58-66 Parnell Street had its order lifted on 20 June.

Restaurant His Food and retailer Mroz who also share the same address as Gorace Gary had their orders lifted on 20 and 21 June respectively.

Steam, Asian Street Food with an address of Kitchen 4, Moore Street Mall had its order lifted on 24 June.

As well as this, a fifth Dublin food business was served with a closure order on 20 June.

The order was served on retailer Laurel Enterprises Limited for the premises of Kenna's Centra with an address at 68 Fassaugh Avenue, Cabra but the order was lifted just one day later.  

The reasons for these closures have not been released yet but are normally made aware to the public by the second week of the month.

Last month, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland reported that seven closure orders and four prohibition orders were served on food businesses during the month of May.

Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive of the FSAI, said that some food businesses are failing to adequately train their staff in food safety practices and this is leading to unhygienic premises which are putting the health of consumers at risk.

She said: “During the month of May, food inspectors detected numerous serious breaches of food safety legislation.

"It is not acceptable that any staff in food businesses are failing to demonstrate satisfactory food hygiene knowledge and skills."

She concluded: "The failure of some food businesses to promote high food safety standards in their premises and among their staff has the potential to cause a serious risk to consumer health, which has been identified in this month’s enforcements.

"Food businesses must act responsibly to prevent these serious breaches of food legislation.”
