In the absence of an award for “Nicest Man in Rock”, Dave Grohl has had to content himself with Foo Fighters winning the international group award at this year’s Brits.
It was the fourth time the band picked up a Brit award – they won the same prize in 2008 and 2012, as well as the international album award for 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace.
2014 was a productive year for the Foo Fighters. As well as releasing their eighth album, Sonic Highways, which debuted in the Billboard 200 at No 1, Grohl made a companion TV series of the same name, which he described as a “love letter to the history of American music”.
Grohl told the Guardian last year that the key to the band’s continued success was his desire to undertake fresh projects. “We’re 20 years in and it’s a priority that we continue to enjoy it and love it, you know?” he said. “But every day I have some harebrained scheme to put on a Fourth of July show or a new video idea or a new project, and I have the opportunity and resources to do these things.”
