Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl says band has 'new energy' as they announce UK tour

The Foo Fighters are set for a return to the UK next year after the band announced they'll be playing four major stadium shows.

And frontman Dave Grohl has welcomed the news, insisting "it's great to be back".

The former Nirvana man will return to Britain with the band next summer to play huge gigs at the London Stadium, Birmingham’s Villa Park and Manchester’s Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground.

The concerts follow the band's US leg of their tour and Dave says they are "enjoying it more than ever" after being forced into an 18-month break due to the Covid pandemic.

Speaking to The Sun, the guitarist, 52, said the enforced break had "brought a new energy to us".

He said: "The connection of being at a big concert venue with thousands of fans again is just awesome. I’ve really missed it.

"For years we have been in a fairly relentless cycle, slowly building. Nirvana became huge overnight — nobody expected that — but with this band we’ve built up over time.

"That has meant constant touring, recording, touring, recording, two weeks on and two weeks off for years without taking a break — so I guess that was overdue. The good thing to come from this whole thing has been family time."

Dave, who formed the Foo Fighters in 1994, admits he's appreciated the extra time he's spent at home with his three daughters - Violet, 15, Harper, 12, and seven-year-old Ophelia.

He explained how "wonderfully mundane" his home life is as he simply makes the packed lunches for the kids before sending them to school in a minivan.

But he says he's excited at the prospect of his youngest daughter finally getting to see him perform.

His oldest two children have already seen him on stage, but the experience will be a new one for the youngest of his brood.

"I love taking them out to shows," he said. "It’s a cool thing to do as a family . . . well, I think so!"

Dave has become somewhat of a regular at major public events with high-end performances including The White House for Barack Obama and Sir Paul McCartney.

But he insists he is going to stay out of politics despite constantly being asked for his opinion on matters.

He described how the band will always "try to do what we think is right" but claimed that in no way are they wanting to preach to people and insisted they aren't a political band.
