Foo Fighters announce first shows without drummer Taylor Hawkins

Foo Fighters are learning to fly without drummer Taylor Hawkins.

The band headed by frontman Dave Grohl is headlining the Boston Calling festival in Allston, Massachusetts, on May 26. Their first full concert without Hawkins comes 10 months after the 50-year-old percussionist was found unresponsive in a Colombia hotel room while the band was preparing to perform at the Estéreo Picnic festival.

His replacement has not been announced yet.

The “Everlong” rockers will perform again May 28 at the Sonic Temple Arts & Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio. They are also scheduled to play the 2023 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, on June 18.

Foo Fighters were scheduled to perform Boston Calling festival in 2022, but canceled the show after Hawkins died, according to Spin. He was found with an enlarged heart and 10 psychoactive substances and medicines in his system, according to officials.

A tribute posted to the band’s website on New Year’s Eve reflected on 27 years of making music, paid tribute to Hawkins and promised fans Foo Fighters weren’t finished.

“We know that when we see you again — and we will soon — he’ll be there in spirit with all of us every night,” they vowed.

In September, Foo Fighters played a pair of all-star tribute concerts for Hawkins. The first of those shows was at Wembley Stadium in the U.K. The second show took place in the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. A series of drummers, including Hawkins’ son Shane Hawkins, filled in for the honoree.
