FONRWA meet Noida CEO, raise residents' demands

NOIDA: Regulating unauthorised vendors and restricting expanding vendor zones, last mile bus connectivity from metro stations to underground cable work to address power outages were some of the issues raised by the RWA federation in a meeting with the CEO Noida Authority on Monday. Others include a check on commercial activity in residential sectors, more gaushalas (cowsheds) to address the issue of stray cattle, quality water and rainwater harvesting pits.

"We met Ritu Maheshwari CEO of Noida Authority today and apprised her of a host of civic issues. The power situation is dismal in the city. The first showers this season on Sunday exposed the condition on the ground with all day outages. We have raised the demand for underground laying of cables earlier to address this issue and reiterated it again in the meeting today,” said KK Jain secretary general Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA).

Further, the RWA delegation demanded a check on unauthorised commercial activities like guest houses, offices, hostels, godowns, playschools etc. in residential sectors. “Such activities are common in many residential sectors posing problems of safety and nuisance for residents living in the sectors. Many RWAs have lodged complaints with authority officials in this regard. But there’s no satisfactory action on the matter so far,” said Yogendra Sharma president of FONRWA.

The delegation also requested the installation of rainwater harvesting system in every sector to address the groundwater depletion issue faced every year and also demanded a review of vending zones and their allotments. “The decision to establish the vending zone is being taken by the Noida Authority without any consultation with the residents or the RWAs of concerned sectors and it only compounds the problems as residents not only face 15-20 minutes of traffic snarls in such areas daily, these zones are increasing without check and knowledge of either the residents or the authority,” said Jain adding that necessary directives are required to be issued to check the number of only authorised hawkers and address the issue of sanitation in these areas.

Residents also demanded city bus service for last-mile connectivity as an urgent need of residential sectors. “There’s an urgent need for city bus services, which include mini buses to bridge the last-mile connectivity gap from metro stations to residential, industrial and other areas in the city. This is all the more critical as Noida has increased in expanse,” said Sharma.

Other issues discussed related to the horticulture, sanitation and sewer related problems of residential sectors.

CEO Maheshwari while assuring to look into the demands raised by residents, directed officials to take action where possible. Another meeting with the RWA federation was agreed to be held in March this year.
