In the mountains of Switzerland, Grundfos pumps have helped to boost business at the Engstligenalp ski resort. The resort has transformed its labour and energy intensive igloo building process, expanding the scope of its winter activities and keeping the area sustainable overall.
The pumps not only take care of water supply to the entire resort – including an artificial ice waterfall for climbers – but also help in the making of artificial snow and snow igloo restaurants.
“We wanted to create an igloo world that is unique in Europe, and we needed these top systems made by Grundfos to implement these dreams,” says general manager Roger Steiner.
The Grundfos system is part of the first waterworks producing renewable electricity in a nature protection area in Switzerland, Steiner says. The waterworks provides enough power for the whole resort and uses water from the area to produce the snow for the igloos.
“With the system built by Grundfos, everything has become a lot more efficient. We save massive amounts of energy and water, and we save many working hours because everything has been installed perfectly,” he says.
