Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton crushed a Home Run Derby-record 61 home runs, including 20 in the finals to capture the event’s title from defending?champion Todd Frazier of the Chicago White Sox.
Stanton opened with 24 homers in defeating Robinson Cano of the Seattle Mariners and went on to beat the Baltimore Orioles’ Mark Trumbo in the semifinals 17-14. Then, in the finals against Frazier, Stanton blasted 20 homers, 11 traveling at least 440 feet, to become the first Marlins player to win the Derby.
Stanton’s longest shot was recorded at 495 feet, and he had the 10 longest homers of the night.
