HBO is set to premiere a new horror anthology that will draw from Asian myths and folklore.
Folklore will be available in the US on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners’s streaming platforms on 1 February, Entertainment Weekly reports, after premiering on HBO Asia in October of last year.
The six-episode, hour-long series will take place across six Asian countries: Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.
The episodes will explore each country’s relationship with the supernatural and the occult, by bringing to life their most notorious myths and folklore.
They will also each feature different directors and will be in the country’s local language.
Folklore‘s Indonesia-set episode, titled “A Mother’s Love”, follows a single mother and her young son as they discover a group of mysterious children in a mansion’s attic.
Its Malaysia-set episode, meanwhile, called “Toyoi”, sees a Member of Parliament seek the aid of a woman with shamanistic powers in order to save his town from economic destitution.
