SAKON NAKHON: Folk singer Kong Huai Rai, inspired by rocker Toon Bodyslam's cross-country run, completed his five-day charity run of 513km on Friday night, raising donations of 18 million baht for public hospitals in his home province.

Singer Akkharadet Yodchampa, known as "Kong Huai Rai'', and his team arrived at the provincial hall at about 7.30pm. It was the destination of his charity run, which started from Feb 26 to Friday.

The folk singer’s team was warmly greeted by a crowd of local residents and officials when they arrived. The five-day charity run raised 18.1 million baht, to be given to 19 state-run hospitals in this northeastern province.

Kong said his charity run was inspired by rock star Artiwara “Too’’ Kongmalai whose 55-day charity run from the southernmost district to the northernmost district of the country, raised over 1.3 billion baht for 11 public hospitals.
